Sergio is a partner at Von Wobeser y Sierra and co-head of the Firm’s Competition & Antitrust practice. With 25 years of experience, he combines senior public enforcement roles with a strong private practice, advising leading domestic and international companies on complex and strategically significant antitrust matters.
Sergio regularly represents blue-chip clients in high-stakes proceedings before the Mexican competition authority and provides strategic advice on investigations, merger control, contentious matters, compliance, and complex commercial arrangements. He is closely involved in defining case strategy in matters requiring sophisticated legal analysis and careful interaction with the authority, and he is a trusted adviser to clients across a broad range of industries. His experience both as an enforcer and in private practice enables him to anticipate regulatory concerns, identify practical solutions, and develop effective strategies aligned with his clients’ business objectives.
Prior to joining the Firm, Sergio spent nearly two decades at Mexico’s former competition authority, COFECE, and its predecessor, where he held senior positions including General Director of Contentious Matters, Technical Secretary, and Head of the Investigative Authority. This experience gives him an in-depth understanding of the authority’s investigative, decision-making, and litigation processes. He participated in hundreds of constitutional control proceedings before the Federal Judiciary, supervised merger notification procedures, and initiated and conducted multiple investigations into monopolistic practices, unlawful concentrations, barriers to competition, essential facilities, and the existence of effective competition conditions and substantial market power.
Sergio is recognized in Competition/Antitrust in Mexico by Chambers and Partners (Latin America). He has been a speaker at dozens of national and international antitrust forums.
