On October 18, 2021, the "Agreement instructing various actions to the agencies indicated, in relation to the definitive importation of used vehicles" was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, through which the President of the Republic instructs certain government agencies to adopt measures for the regularization of used vehicles of foreign origin whose lawful presence in the country cannot be evidenced.
Said agreement does not contain specific actions or requirements for the regularization of used vehicles of foreign origin, but rather the instruction to implement a program that incentivizes individuals residing in the northern border region, which comprises the states of Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas and Baja California Sur, to regularize this type of vehicles. The regularization of these vehicles is not yet a reality. Its implementation will require the issuance of new legal provisions by state and federal authorities, for which no specific term was established.
