The United States government, through the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), is requesting public comments on the operation, compliance, and possible improvements of the USMCA, as well as on the functioning of the North American Competitiveness Committee. Proposals related to balanced trade, market access, economic security, investment, and regional competitiveness are invited. The deadline to submit comments and request to appear at the public hearing is 45 days from the publication; the hearing will be held on November 17, 2025, in Washington, D.C. Submissions must be made through the official portal (https://comments.ustr.gov/s/).
For its part, Mexico, through the Ministry of Economy, has opened a period of 60 calendar days to receive comments and recommendations on the operation of the USMCA, as part of the preparation for the 2026 review. Contributions can be sent by email to consultas.tmec@economia.gob.mx, through the website http://www.buzontmec.economia.gob.mx, or by physical delivery at the Ministry of Economy.
Both processes constitute the official channels for companies and interested sectors to influence the review and eventual extension of the USMCA. For the automotive sector, it is crucial to address issues such as rules of origin, operational continuity and logistics, talent development, investment climate, and regional competitiveness. We recommend preparing and submitting comments in both countries within the established deadlines, ensuring alignment of messages between Mexico and the United States and properly marking confidential information in the submissions.
