Energy policy and USMCA: opportunities for Mexico’s competitiveness

On August 6, 2026, during President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning press conference, the main preliminary conclusions of the Scientific Committee formed to assess the feasibility of exploiting unconventional natural gas deposits in Mexico (the “Committee”) were presented.

On July 21, 2026, the National Energy Commission (the “CNE”) published the Press Release No. 008, announcing the implementation of a temporary Registration Program for the Dispatch for Self-Consumption of Petroleum Products (the “Program”).

On June 18, 2026, guidelines issued by the Ministry of Energy entered into force to regulate the voluntary and expedited migration of legacy self-supply and cogeneration permits to the framework of the Electric Sector Law.
