Energy policy and USMCA: opportunities for Mexico’s competitiveness
USMCA, nearshoring and energy policy reinforce the need for a reliable, efficient and sustainable energy system in Mexico.
Our partner Ariel Garfio and associate Regina González authored the Energy 21 article “Política energética y T-MEC: oportunidades para México,” in which they examine the relationship between energy policy, North American economic integration and Mexico’s competitiveness.
Ariel and Regina discuss how USMCA and nearshoring have increased the need for a reliable, efficient and sustainable energy system. They also address binding planning in the electricity sector, the priority role of CFE and Pemex, and the importance of private investment in strengthening Mexico’s energy capacity and capturing opportunities arising from regional integration.
