On May 29, 2020, the agreement issued by Juan Alfredo Lozano Tovar, Director General of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), was published in the Federal Official Gazette (DOF), by means of which the suspension of terms and activities of said Institute was once again extended on account of the health contingency due to COVID-19. In this regard, the IMPI will remain closed and the counting of terms will remain suspended until further notice.
It was determined in the aforementioned agreement that the suspension of activities and terms will be guided by the determinations, announcements, and measures established by Mexico's health authorities, specifically, with respect to Mexico City, the seat of the IMPI. In this regard, the suspension has been extended indefinitely and will be lifted only once the health authorities announce that the conditions necessary for the reopening of said Institute are optimal. Said reopening will be carried out, in due course, in a gradual and orderly manner. In light of the foregoing, we will provide timely follow-up on the announcements made by both the Institute and the corresponding health authorities in the coming weeks.
