The Senate of the Republic began the process of discussing a law to regulate the various uses of cannabis. In principle, the objective is to comply with a series of rulings and judicial proceedings that declare the unconstitutionality of the absolute prohibition of the personal use of the product and require the issuance of the guidelines necessary for its medicinal use. However, the legislative discussion also seeks to respond to the demands of an important part of society
The challenge is greater. Although the Congress of the Union has a legal and social commitment to allow the use of cannabis for various purposes, such as recreational, medicinal and industrial, there does not appear to be a basic preliminary agreement even among the legislators of the party with a majority in the chambers. It therefore seems very complicated for legislation to be approved that satisfactorily responds to the interests and expectations of the different social and economic sectors, especially when the deadline to do so was set for December 15, 2020. In any case, the issue of cannabis regulation is of great relevance, so we will be reporting on it in due course.
