Following the final approval of Mexico's telecommunications bill prior to its enactment, law firms are preparing for the surge in demand from clients facing stricter economic competition requirements and from investment opportunities resulting from the tenders and from the availability of assets to the highest bidder, divested by dominant participants such as América Móvil. Fernando Carreño, of Von Wobeser y Sierra SC in Mexico City, notes that the decision to break up América Móvil is understandable and, moreover, expected. He said that "the IFT now has significant powers to designate the 'preponderant economic agents,' and this has a major impact on the development and management of these companies' activities."
