New minimum wage as of January 1, 2020

Dear clients and friends:

Today, the resolution of the Council of Representatives of the National Minimum Wage Commission (CONASAMI) setting the general and occupational minimum wages that will be in effect as of January 1, 2020, was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF). On the one hand, the new general minimum wage will be $123.22 pesos, an amount obtained by adding to the current general minimum wage ($102.68 pesos) the so-called “Independent Recovery Amount” (MIR), which CONASAMI agreed would be $14.67 pesos per day, plus an increase equivalent to 5%. (Current minimum wage ($102.68 pesos) + MIR ($14.67 pesos) + 5% = $123.22 pesos). On the other hand, in the “Northern Border Free Zone,” the minimum wage, as of January 1, 2020, will be $185.56 pesos per day, an amount obtained from the sum of the general minimum wage in effect for that zone ($176.72 pesos), plus a setting increase of 5%. It is worth noting that this year the MIR did not apply to the aforementioned zone. (Current minimum wage ($176.72 pesos) + 5% = $185.56 pesos).
