Mexico City, January 13, 2025.- Von Wobeser y Sierra, S.C., announces changes to its leadership structure: Claus von Wobeser, founding partner and a pillar in the construction of the firm, will assume the roles of Honorary Chairman and Of Counsel, while Adrián Magallanes and Diego Sierra join the Executive Committee alongside current members Luis Burgueño and Fernando Carreño. This strategic transition, effective February 1, 2025, marks a new chapter for the firm and is the result of careful planning designed to ensure continuity, strengthen leadership, and promote sustainable growth.
The new members of the Executive Committee bring a valuable combination of experience and leadership. Adrián Magallanes joined the firm in 2002 and co-leads the disputes practice, which includes arbitration and litigation. Diego Sierra joined the firm in 2006 and has led the investigations, compliance, and anti-corruption practice since its inception over a decade ago. Adrián and Diego’s track records and expertise position them as leading practitioners in their respective fields, as recognized by clients, competitors, and leading legal directories.
Both partners have demonstrated extensive leadership capabilities through their involvement in key aspects of the firm’s management, including talent development, performance evaluation processes, client relations, and business development. This experience ensures continuity in the pursuit of operational excellence.
Moreover, the partners’ meeting reaffirmed Luis Burgueño and Fernando Carreño as members of the Executive Committee, a position they have held since 2019, to ensure a smooth and efficient transition.
As part of this strategic transition, Claus von Wobeser will step down from the Executive Committee to take the roles of Honorary Chairman and Of Counsel, a lifetime position that reflects his extraordinary impact on the firm and the Mexican legal sector. At the request of the partners, Claus will remain involved in key matters, both internal and client-related, contributing value through his vast knowledge and experience. Additionally, he will remain actively involved in cases (as counsel and as arbitrator), as well as in strategic transactions.
“I am deeply grateful for the privilege of having led this firm for so many years and for the opportunity to continue contributing in a new role,” said Claus von Wobeser. “The integration of the new Executive Committee will lead us to new horizons, consolidating our position as leaders in the Mexican legal sector. I have full confidence that Luis, Fernando, Adrián, and Diego will guide Von Wobeser y Sierra toward a bright future.”
Claus von Wobeser’s career spans more than four decades of exceptional achievements that extend beyond the firm. His leadership has been instrumental not only in establishing Von Wobeser y Sierra as a benchmark in Mexico but also in strengthening the legal sector and advancing international arbitration in the country. His vision and commitment to excellence, integrity, pro bono work, and diversity have contributed to the development of the legal profession, inspiring generations of lawyers in Mexico and Latin America.
“Claus’s legacy is unparalleled, and his influence will remain fundamental to our culture. Everyone at Von Wobeser y Sierra is immensely grateful to him,” said Luis Burgueño. “Adrián and Diego bring renewed energy and a strategic, innovative vision that will drive the firm to new levels of excellence.”
Fernando Carreño added, “Claus has been an exceptional mentor and a visionary architect of our culture of integrity and excellence. The addition of Adrián and Diego represents an extraordinary opportunity to consolidate our leadership and explore new areas of growth.”
This transition marks a significant chapter in Von Wobeser y Sierra’s history, reinforcing our readiness to face the challenges and seize the opportunities that the evolution of the legal profession presents. For more information regarding the firm and its team, please click here.
