On October 18, 2021, the “Resolution instructing the indicated agencies to take actions in relation to the definitive importation of used vehicles” was published in the Federal Official Gazette, in which the President of the Republic instructs certain governmental agencies to adopt measures for the regularization of used vehicles of foreign origin whose legal stay in the country cannot be proven.
This resolution does not contain specific actions or requirements for the regularization of used vehicles of foreign origin, but rather the instruction that a program be implemented that incentivizes individuals residing in the northern border region, which includes the states of Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas and Baja California Sur, to regularize these types of vehicles.
The regularization of these vehicles is not possible yet. Its implementation would require the issuance of new regulations by state and federal authorities, for which no specific deadline was established.
