The Bankruptcy & Restructuring practice of Von Wobeser y Sierra is characterized by its participation in the most relevant proceedings of the country in this area.
We represent our clients from the point of view of both the borrower seeking a solution for its business and the lender who needs to recover its loans.
In recent years, Von Wobeser y Sierra has assembled a team of lawyers who are experts in insolvencies, restructuring proceedings and bankruptcy judicial proceedings. Our goal has been to provide complete representation and advice to the firm’s clients that includes both legal expertise and a solid understanding of finance and business.
In debt matters, the primary function of the practice is to reach agreements with lenders that allow our clients to meet their obligations or liquidate the business in a satisfactory manner and covering the greatest part of the debt possible. The firm has taken part in the most important restructuring and bankruptcy proceedings in the country, representing both borrowers and lenders. Von Wobeser y Sierra also has experience in cross border restructuring proceedings (especially in U.S. Chapter 11 proceedings).
In addition to extensive experience in the field, the lawyers of the firm hold graduate degrees and have attended specialized courses in Mexico and abroad. They all have solid knowledge not only of restructuring but also of finances and accounting, which ensures a full understanding of our clients’ needs and how to serve them. Several of the lawyers of the firm actively participate in the Bankruptcy Commission of the Mexican Bar Association; the Insolvency Section of the International Bar Association, and INSOL International.
Also important is the firm’s participation in the planning and presentation of the Bankruptcy Diploma organized by the Bankruptcy Law Commission of the Mexican Bar (Comisión de Derecho Concursal de la Barra Mexicana, Colegio de Abogados), the first of its kind in Mexico. Global Restructuring Review 100 counted Von Wobeser y Sierra among the hundred best firms in the world in restructurings. Ours was one of the few Latin American firms on the list. Publications such as Chambers and Partners Latin America, The Legal 500, and Latin Lawyer 250 also recognize the Bankruptcy & Restructuring practice of Von Wobeser y Sierra.
